Situated in the heart of London, the Kanga Studio is a centre for wellbeing and spirituality. The Kanga Studio is a nurturing and safe space where you can connect with yourself through the practice of authentic yoga, meditation, yogic philosophy and other healing activities, amongst like-minded people and with high-end trainers and therapists. IMPORTANT UPDATE: ONLINE SESSIONS AT KANGA STUDIO<\/b><\/h2>\n

We have been doing our best to take decisions which benefit our community as well as the continued running of the studio. First off, we need you to know we truly appreciate each and every one of you, and will do whatever we can to keep ensuring you have the high level of care and attention you would get from our team usually.
\nTo manage that, we will host sessions via Zoom. We do want to keep some of our online Zoom sessions small, so that the teachers can keep a close eye on you through your cameras and videos too – it will be essential for you to keep your camera on during the session, even if your eyes are closed. For any session you book, you will receive your access link via email with your access password too to ensure your spot on the virtual mat. For online Kriya follow ups for Happiness Program graduates, we may get to the stage where Art of Living might require you to register on their Harmony system for these sessions. If\/when\/how that comes into effect, we will let you know. As Kanga Studio London is a small business and these are uncertain times, we still would have to charge (even if a small amount) for some of our online sessions. We hope you understand and can support that for us, as we have had to stop all in-person classes in our physical studio. We love you and hope you and your loved ones and those all around you are keeping well and safe.These times will pass, and much good will definitely come out of all this. ARRIVING AT KANGA STUDIO NAIROBI<\/b><\/h2>\n

Please ensure you arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled session to allow time to settle down, and in case you have any questions beforehand for the teacher, you will get them answered. On arrival, temperatures will be measured and sanitiser provided. Kindly remember to keep safe and bring your own masks, and ensure you maintain social distance. We welcome you to bring your own mat and blanket. The floors will be marked to ensure social distancing. Please ensure your mat is well sanitised before use. Kanga Studio provides yoga mats and props if you require them. There is plenty of parking available at Kanga Studio within the compound and on the grass outside the gate. There is a bathroom and toilet on site, and storage available for your belongings during your session.<\/p>\n

The studio mats, props and studio will be sanitised and disinfected after each session. The facilitator will observe social distancing. There will be no physical adjustments. If you need our help for anything, please call, sms or WhatsApp 0759956291. Masks will be worn by all team members within the venue. The teacher and participants may need to remove their masks during a session, in which case social distancing will be observed. The studio floor has been marked for the yoga mats to be spaced 1.5 meters apart. On arrival, all visitors (including the team members) will have their temperature checks and given hand sanitiser.

THE MEANING OF KANGA<\/h1>\n

Emma Bonnici first fell in love with the Kanga cloth in 2006, when she was first living and working in Kenya. The African material itself is alike to a giant social poetry performance; an enormous living book of poems bound by the body and by all who read, interpret and live by its words and numerous meanings. The multi-faceted and functional Kanga cloth is not only astonishing to one\u2019s eyes, but it is also a fabric that doubles as a \u2018message in motion\u2019.<\/p>\n

Emma once made earrings laden with beautiful spotted feathers, but later fell in love with the patterns used to compose those of Kanga. Later, she surprisingly traced these feathers back to the bird, which is called the \u2018Kanga\u2019 in Swahili. The spotted patterns of the African Kanga \u00a0cloth instantly reminded people of the bird\u2019s beautiful plumage, and with this in mind the chatty, sociable songbird with it\u2019s elegant spotted feathers and popular name, inspired the birth and creation of Kanga cloths.<\/p>\n

Emma began living and working in India, and her yoga practice was very much inspired by her Indian teachers Ashtanga Vinyasa, Sivanada, Iyengar Yoga & Ayurveda. Whilst sharing the teachings of yoga in Madhya Pradesh and writing a yoga column for the Hindustan Times, Emma discovered the true essence of adapting yoga to the individual and also learned the positive healing power of music.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cEven inanimate objects are moved by the music. Through music the soul learns harmony and rhythm and an even disposition to justice. Rhythm and harmony find their way into the secret notches of the soul and keep it entirely oblivious of the outside world, in sublime peace.\u201d ~ Sivananda<\/p>\n

Emma believes our energy changes according to the environment we exist in, along with connected seasons and lifestyle. With this in mind, Emma focused on the energy of her students, whilst also incorporating music and elements of different yoga practices into each class.<\/p>\n

Upon her return to the UK in 2009 when running Kanga Events (a wellbeing events company), her classes became remarkably referred to as \u2018Kanga Yoga\u2019 by studios and events in London. Soon after, Emma then followed the advice of a wise women in the Sivananda Centre in Putney, and \u2018went with the flow\u2019.<\/p>\n

In 2010 it was fate that guided Emma back to the magical land of Laikipia in Kenya, to a camp where she decided to plant the seeds for Kanga Yoga and Ayurveda retreats. When Emma arrived at the camp, she discovered it beautifully decorated with the elegantly, spotted feathers of the Kanga!<\/p>\n
